Northcote Primary School implements that the Respectful Relationships Initiative, which teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience, and confidence. It also supports our community to promote and model respect and equality. Our Respectful Relationships curriculum acknowledges that children of any age have challenges to overcome, teaching social and emotional skills appropriate to their age and level of maturity. At Northcote Primary School, we teach the 4Rs as a core component of the Victorian Curriculum, primarily centred around the Personal and Social Capability and Health and Physical Education Curriculum.
As a school, we utilise the Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials developed by the University of Melbourne. These lessons are taught throughout the year & provide students with the opportunity to learn and practise social skills and apply them in a positive way to learning, life and relationships. The following eight topics are covered for each year level:

Sexuality & Health Lessons
Northcote Primary School is partnering with Vanessa Hamilton, founder of Talking The Talk Healthy Sexuality Education. Vanessa is an experienced Sexuality Educator with over 25 years in the field, having supported tens of thousands of people to better understand sexuality and sexual health.
Our teachers will be delivering a series of Sexuality and Health lessons that explore physical, social, and emotional changes. These lessons are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and Department of Education guidelines, with a focus on Respectful Relationships, Consent, and Sexuality Education. They support students in meeting the health-related outcomes of the Victorian Curriculum.
The program uses age-appropriate, fact-based content and a range of engaging resources, including games, class discussions, and audio-visual media.
We value the important role families play in shaping their child’s understanding of sexuality and relationships, and we hope these lessons provide a supportive foundation for meaningful conversations at home.
